Flight Log – Introducing Reporting Partners

On the 1st of July, we officially took over the reins at Reporting Partners, making it Wingman’s first sister business!

Reporting Partners (Pty) Ltd (or “RP” as we like to call it) specialises in the drafting of annual financial statements, including complex consolidations. It also provides independent reviews, a service that we have never offered in the Wingman stable before.

RP launched in 2016 when the former owners purchased a financial statement drafting division as a going concern from one of the audit firms. The business was taken from strength to strength by brothers Johan and Gustav Bam, along with Johan’s wife, Yolandi.

The opportunity is really two-fold: a. Section 90 of the Companies Act prohibits auditors from drafting annual financial statements for their audit clients (historically the auditors drafted many of these statements in-house). b. Companies don’t always have the internal know-how to draft complex annual financial statements once per year.

There is therefore a need in the market for outsourcing complex drafting services, which is the bread-and-butter business of RP.

RP’s client list reads like a who’s who of South African blue-chip companies, serving much larger corporates than the SMEs that we typically target in Wingman. Churning out just short of 1,000 sets of financial statements each year, RP adds some serious firepower to the scale and complexity of problems that we can solve as a team.

Talking about the team we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming several new and experienced staff members to our eclectic mix of personalities because of the RP acquisition. 5 RP team members (Shevon, Bianca, Jackie, Juanita and Gustav) joined us from the existing team, we appointed Komal from 1 July and we have two new hires joining in August.

This takes our overall headcount to 23 from next month for Wingman & RP combined.

To paraphrase an old Western movie, our existing office is not big enough for the both of us, so we are moving to a larger space from September (which happens to be Wingman’s 6th birthday).

The new offices are located at Gillooly’s View Office Park (overlooking Gillooly’s interchange) where EOH’s head office used to be.

During July we started the exciting process of creating a new brand strategy for Reporting Partners, which will lead to a new logo and website in the near future. We are planning on revealing this next month, so watch this space!

And, as always, we’ve got your back!
