Wingman April updates!

We welcomed Corlia Victor to our team at the beginning of April.

She is a CA(SA) that presented technical CPD training to accountants for several years post articles.  One can safely describe her as a real technical guru that helps us to (further) up our game here at Wingman.

This brings our tax team to 2, and our overall team to 16 Wingmen and Wingwomen.

Corlia has already become involved in several projects here at Wingman, but her focus is going to be on building our specialized US tax return business.

In our January 2023 newsletter, we mentioned that one of our goals for 2023 is “establishing our offshore/US tax services offering as a full-fledged division”.

Now is a good time to explain this cryptic comment in a bit more detail.

Ricardo (one of our directors) has a good friend from his days at UJ that lives in Atlanta and who runs a tax practice there.  Last year he outsourced some of the tax work (typically data processing type tasks) to us as an experiment.

Despite a steep learning curve, we realised that there is potentially a huge opportunity to build this service as a stand-alone division.

The problem is that nobody had enough capacity to give this “side-gig” wings. Until now.  😊

We’ll update you on this venture in future newsletters…

One of our friends at an audit firm presented us with an opportunity to deliver specialised Annual Financial Statements (“AFS”) drafting service to a large renewable energy group on a retainer basis.

The group contains a few dozen companies, with several consolidations required up the chain.

We’ve been drafting AFS for our clients since inception, but most of these sets are for our retainer accounting clients and did not represent a separate income stream.  For some clean-up and catch-up projects we’d bill separately for the drafting of AFS, but these tended to be ad hoc.

Tanya, one of our long-standing employees and also a CA(SA), has stepped up to the plate to see if we can build AFS as another self-sufficient division.

In the coming months we are going to actively market this service to similar groups to give it a good go.

Please get in touch if you have potential leads (or comments) on this venture!

All the public holidays in April present great opportunities to use a few (strategic) leave days and take several LONG breaks.

Our team has been making hay of these holidays and will almost certainly be fully charged in May to take us through the cold winter months ahead.

Thank you for your support, and, as always, we’ve got your back!
