Wingman Accounting new website is live!

Wingman turned 5 in September! We celebrated our birthday by opening a new office in Bedfordview, Johannesburg.

Visitors are welcome! Our new office is located at unit 806, Bedford Office Tower, Bedford Centre.

A new & improved website has been sitting on our wish list for a while. The site has been largely unchanged from Wingman’s inception in 2017, so we used our 5th birthday as an excuse to finally redesign it from scratch.

You can check out our new website here (we are obviously very excited about it! 😊).

Back in the (new) office, our team is still adjusting to the hybrid work model, with most of them spending a day or two each week at the office and working remotely the rest of the time.

Strategically we’ve made a number of fundamental changes this year. The three main ones were 1) opening a physical office after 3 years of operating 100% virtually, 2) splitting our team into two “squadrons” and 3) starting a CIMA training program. The goal is to create largely self-sufficient teams that can, in time, manage their own client portfolios from take-on to “maintenance mode”, along with staff development from graduate to account manager level.

On the tax-front we’re submitting the half-yearly EMP501 payroll tax returns this month. The 24th of October is the deadline for filing individual income tax returns (i.e. for humans, not for companies). Individuals that are also registered as provisional taxpayers have until 23 January 2023 to file their returns.

Client Success Story - Just Property Winelands

Our largest client in the real estate industry Just Property Winelands.

They operate the Just Property branches in Paarl, Worcester, Wellington, Ceres, Riebeek Kasteel, Malmesbury and several towns along the West Coast.

The business was started in 2010 when Jacques Basson purchased a rental book in Paarl and housed it under a new Just Letting franchise (later rebranded to “Just Property”).  Initially, the focus was on residential and commercial property rentals, but over time they have expanded the real-estate sales part of the business into a formidable division in its own right.

They saw an opportunity in providing real estate services in some of the smaller towns in the Western Cape that are not dominated by large real estate agencies. By centralising most of the admin in Paarl they can run lean offices in the smaller towns that are staffed almost exclusively by estate agents.

Tech-wise they use both PayProp and WeConnectU to run their operations.  On the accounting side, they use Xero, Dext and SimplePay, the same as all of our other clients at Wingman.

PayProp and WeConnectU do not yet integrate with Xero, but there is a good chance that they would open up an integration with Xero in the near future.

“We had several accountants in short succession – Wingman was of great help to get our accounting records back into shape and to improve a host of internal processes.  The real win was getting us to a point where we could look at monthly management reports that actually make sense.” said Jacques.
